This film embellishes this historical figure to establish that perhaps a curse had been placed upon the mine over which he lost his son. Add in an actual legend of Chief Tenaya of the Ahwahneechee tribe who resided in the Yosemite Valley, whose son was killed in a mining dispute, and who himself was killed in a dispute with a neighboring tribe. There are thousands of abandoned mines in the country, and nothing is romantic than the thought of finding an abandoned gold mine with something left to offer. ![]() A gateway indie horror picture is a bit of a rarity, as usually the indie films go down either the gory and gonzo route, or the heady think-piece route.įor his first time out writing a movie, Yurke found a great hook for his film. It also resembles a studio film, in that he has taken a decidedly PG-13 route with this outing, and he told the large Festival audience that it was his intent to have a movie that his kids could watch. With a pedigree like Yurke’s, it is not surprising that the film boasts a look of a big production studio. He wrote, produced, and directed Stay Out, Stay Alive, (formerly a movie titled Golden… a much better title now) which just had its world premiere at the Portland Horror Film Festival. think of the most effects dependent movies out of Hollywood, and it is likely that Mr. Iron Man, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek. "Stay Alive" should have been titled "Stay Awake." The Frankie Muniz-starring horror movie is one of the dumbest and incomprehensible horror movies to come along in years. As the line between the game world and the real world disappears, the group must find a way to defeat the vicious and merciless Blood Countess, all the while trying to…STAY ALIVE. Not able to resist temptation, the group begins to play the grisly game and soon a chilling connection is made - they are each being murdered one-by-one in the same method as the character they played in the game. After the mysterious brutal death of an old friend, a group of teenagers find themselves in possession of Stay Alive, a next generation horror survival videogame based on the spine-chilling true story of a 17th century noblewoman known as "The Blood Countess." The gamers don't know anything about the game other than they're not supposed to have it…and they're dying to play it. ![]()
